Oh, the hard part's over is it?
Jul 27th 2010 09:07

According to the HMRC form I just filled out:

"You have already tackled the two hardest parts of starting out on your own: getting an idea and making the decision to actually do it."

Really? Well... that's very reassuring to know! I was rather worried that I was going to have trouble getting people to part with their cold hard cash.

The news that it's easier from here on in is definitely a relief.

A new business venture and job title
Jul 15th 2010 13:07

You may have noticed the fact that I have an entirely new website today.

You may also have noticed that my 'personal' website is now my 'business' website.

I've just decided to leave my very secure and very well paid job to persue a dream. Of course, I still need to pay the rent and put food on my families table, so I've set myself up as a freelance website consultant and planner.

I'm absolutely convinced there is a gaping hole in the market that needed filling. Most web design companies produce technical specifications in house, but - to be blunt - they normally suck. Quite often they don't seem to exist at all.

So, that's what I'm doing now. I'm bridging the divide between the clients who want websites and the people who make those websites by offering dedicated planning services.

If you think that's something that may be of interest to you then please, get in touch! ;)

Ange and I playing with YouTube
Jul 4th 2010 10:07

We've been playing with YouTube this weekend. Here's one that we shot on my Canon IXUS 100 (I'm utterly amazed that you can get HD video of this quality out of a compact camera!). We recorded the sound seperately through the laptop and then synced the audio and the video back together again.

I've embeded one of the videos below, but we've also uploaded 'Worry Lines ' which Ange wrote on Monday, and also both part 1 and part 2 of her interview on BBC Somerset this week.

I'm VERY impressed by YouTube's new HD features:
